The main classification of deaths—those for 1936 being given
in parenthesis—was as follows: —
Whooping Cough, 2 (4); Diphtheria, 4 (2); Pulmonary Tuberculosis,
80 (73); Non-Pulmonary Tuberculosis, 12 (14); Cancer,
220 (192); Cerebral Haemorrhage, 91 (85); Heart, 338 (374);
Bronchitis, 70 (58); Nephritis, 35 (46); Congenital Debility, etc.,
38 (37); Suicide, 14 (15); Violence, 45 (33).
B.—GENERAL PROVISION OF HEALTH SERVICES
IN THE AREA.
Public Health Officers of the Authority.—The names and
qualifications of officers employed by your Authority ai'e given at
the beginning of the report and also in the Maternity and Child
Welfare Section of the Report. All are whole-time officers unless
otherwise stated.
Laboratory Facilities.—These facilities are detailed under
the Infectious Diseases Section of the Report. There were no
changes in the arrangements detailed in previous years.
Ambulance Facilities.—
(a) Infectious Cases.—No change since last report.
(b) Non-Infectious and Accident Cases, and a See below.
(c) Maternity Patients.
The ambulance services in the area appear to be quite adequate
and sufficiently co-ordinated.
1. Municipal Service.
Superintendent Camp, A.M.I. Fire E., reports as follows on the
work done during 1937 :—

97 maternity oases have been removed to Thorpe Coombe
Maternity Home.
The oxygen-carbon dioxide breathing apparatus, giving a
mixture of 7 per cent. carbon dioxide, has been in use 17 times for
cases of gas poisoning and collapse. It was successfully used on 6
occasions. An additional ambulance will be brought into use in
1938.
