(iv) Shops Act, 1934.—During the year there were no breaches
of the Act calling for action by the Chief Sanitary Inspector.
(v) Smoke Abatement.—Two cases have arisen during the year
where smoke emission from factory chimneys called for intervention.
Most of the modern factories are equipped with automatic stoking,
each being fitted with recording instruments indicating the amount
of carbon dioxide passed through the shafts.
