1. NOTIFICATION OF BIRTHS.
1,647 births (129 of which belonged to other areas) were
notified during the year under the Notification of Births Acts,
1907 and 1915. Notifications were received from Doctors and
Parents, 438; Midwives, 1,209.
Included in the above are 189 births which were notified
as having occurred outside the Borough.
Also included are 45 stillbirths, two of which did not
belong to the area. Ten were notified by Doctors and 35 by
Midwives. Of the total, three occurred outside the area.
The stillbirth rate per 1,000 population was 0.42.
The Registrar-General's returns show the following registrations during the calendar year:—
(a) Live Births. | Males. | Females | Totals. |
---|---|---|---|
Legitimate | 833 | 793 | 1,626 |
Illegitimate | 24 | 20 | 44 |
857 | 813 | 1,670 | |
(b) Stillbirths. | |||
Legitimate | 29 | 27 | 56 |
Illegitimate | — | 1 | 1 |
29 | 28 | 57 |
Of 1,628 birth registrations received in the Department
between 29th December, 1934, and 28th December, 1935, a
total of 284 were not notified in this area, but some may
possibly have been notified elsewhere, especially in view of
the fact that of the 1,628 registrations, 171 referred to births
which belonged to other areas. In addition, it will be seen
that the Registrar-General's figure (1,670) is 42 more than
the local registrations. Presumably these were births
registered and notified in other areas.
Of the 1,628 local registrations, 171 are excluded, leaving
a net total of 1,457, which are allocated to the Wards as
follows:—
