No action was necessary under the Public Health (Prevention
of Tuberculosis) Regulations, 1925, or Section 62 of
the Public Health Act, 1925.
Following the survey visit paid by a medical officer of
the Ministry, it was pointed out modifications could, with
advantage, be made in the method of carrying out the duties
imposed ,by the Public Health Tuberculosis Regulations, 1930,
and Circular 1107.
Arrangements were then made whereby the County
Council's Tuberculosis Nurse fills in at her first visit an
enquiry card supplied by the Borough Council and, at the
same time, issues a leaflet calling attention to the patient's
part in the prevention of tuberculosis. The leaflet advises
the patient how to minimise the spread of infection. After
completion, the enquiry card is sent to the Public Health
Department, and is passed on to the Chief Sanitary Inspector,
who arranges for the district inspector to pay routine halfyearly
visits. Opportunity is then taken to remedy any
sanitary defect which may be found.
Your Council also decided to supply pocket sputum flasks
free of charge.
