would be repaired during the next five years would be 11,575.
It is gratifying to me to be able now to report that my
estimate was slightly exceeded— the actual number of houses
repaired was 11,981.

During the year all letters addressed to the Public Health
Department in support of applications for rehousing were
acknowledged and forwarded to the Housing Manager for
the attention of the Housing Committee.
Mr. J. E. West, your Council's Housing Manager, has
kindly contributed the following statement:—
"The re-opening of the Housing Register, which was
closed in December, 1933, was further considered during the
past year, but having regard to the large number of applicants
on the register whose requirements remained unfulfilled,
and the comparatively small number of houses expected to
become available during 1935, it was decided not to register
any new applicants.
