Sampling was carried out in June (satisfactory) and inJuly
(twice unsatisfactory).
The pool will be more fully described in the annual report
of the Medical Officer of Health for Leyton.
(b) Private.
The Kingfisher Pool.
This is an open-air pool of recent construction in Epping
Forest.
The Managing Director kindly gives the following"
particulars:—
The length is 110ft. and the breadth is 50ft. The depth
varies from 3ft. to 9ft., and the capacity is 216,000 gallons.
The chlorination and filtration plants were supplied
respectively by Messrs. Wallace & Tiernan and Messrs. United
Filters, Ltd., and have a turnover of eight hours, with a
possible speeding up to six hours. 0.2 parts per million of
free chlorine are aimed at for the deep end and 0.6 at the
shallow end.
The plants were kept in operation for an average of 15
hours per day (and all day and night over the week-ends, if
found necessary), the pool being open for 170 days.
The approximate number of swimmers in 1935 was 55,000,.
and the estimated maximum load was 800.
Bacteriological and chemical analyses were carried out
on four occasions with the results given in the following
table (samples 4-7), from which it will be noted that all the
four samples were quite satisfactory.
