J. SURVEY OF PUBLIC HEALTH SERVICES.
A complete survey of the public health services of theBorough
was carried out by Medical Officers of the Ministry of"
Health, beginning on 14th February, 1935, and lasting for several!
days.
Subsequently a report was received by the Town Clerk, and,,
after submission to your Council, specific action was taken on
the points raised. At a later date a full report was made by
the Town Clerk to the Ministry.
The report and memorandum received from the Ministry,,
and the action taken, are set out below.
Ministry of Health,
IIIa.1769/4201/1. Whitehall, S.W.I.
12th August, 1935.
sir,
I am directed by the Minister of. Health to state that
he has had under consideration the report of his Medical
Officer who recently visited Walthamstow for the purpose
of carrying out a survey of the public health services of the
Town Council. It appears that,, so far as can be judged
from a general survey, the Council are maintaining a
reasonable, and for the most part, a high standard of efficiency
and progress in the discharge of their functions
relating to public health. In particular, the Minister is glad
to learn that good work is being done under the Council's
Maternity and Child Welfare Scheme both through their
own officers and in co-operation with voluntary agencies.
The provision of a Foot Clinic and the arrangements for
immunisation against diphtheria are also noteworthy features
of the Council's health work.
A memorandum is enclosed with regard to matters which
need the attention of the Council, and the Minister will
be glad to be informed in due course of the result of their
consideration of the memorandum. If the Council consider
that the discussion of any of these matters would be of
advantage, the Minister will be happy to arrange for an
interview between representatives of the Council and officers
of the Department on being informed of the particular points
which it is desired to discuss.
The Minister desires me to express his appreciation of
the assistance which was given to his Officers throughout thesurvey.
I am, Sir,
The Town Clerk, Your obedient servant,
Town Hall, Dudley Ward.
Walthamstow, E.17.
