There were 35 or more patients in the Home on 21 days
(35 being the number of maternity beds excluding isolation beds)
the maximum being 41 on August 28th, after which date bookings
were restricted to 65 per month and bookings of patients from
outside the Borough were refused.
(f) Financial. — Costing returns in respect of Maternity
Homes are required by the Ministry of Health for each financial
year. The return for the year ending 31st March, 1935, is as
follows :—

(g) Training.— The Home was inspected by the Chairman
of the Central Midwives Board, Dr. J. S. Fairbairn, F.R.C.S.,
F.R.C.P., Sir Comyns Berkeley, M.D., F.R.C.S., F.R.C.P.,
F.C.O.G., and the late Secretary, in March, 1935. Approval was
given for the training of six pupils at any one time with effect
from 1st April, 1935. One pupil had completed her training by
the end of the year.
The pupils carry out district midwifery training during
residence with the Walthamstow District Nursing Association.
Lectures are taken with the Essex County Nursing Association
in Leyton.
Following the resignation of the senior sister towards the end
of the year, a new combined appointment of assistant matron
and sister tutor was instituted.
