10. WALTHAMSTOW DISTRICT NURSING
ASSOCIATION.
Mrs. Drury, the Honorary Secretary, kindly reports as
follows:—
"During 1935, 149 in-patients (19 Maternity and 130 Midwifery)
were admitted, as against 154 in 1934.
"142 Midwifery and Maternity cases were attended on the
District, against 158 in 1934.
" The general work of the District shows an increase.
"The year 1935 has seen many changes in the Association.
In September the Committee affiliated to the Queen's Institute
of District Nursing and one 'Queen's' nurse was appointed to
do the general works The Committee felt that if a sufficient
number of 'Queen's' nurses was to be obtained efficiently to
meet the demands of the Borough, they must aim at getting a
definite annual income. They therefore took the step of engaging
a trained Organiser (Miss C. A. Lee from the Queen's Headquarters)
who assumed duty at the end of December.
"Miss Lee has launched the Provident Scheme of payments,
and up to date there are 5,000 members, all paying regularly sums
varying from 4/4 a year to £1 1s. Od. a year. This subscription
entitles the head of a family and all dependents to free service.
"The Committee still retain the unalterable rule regarding
the free service for necessitous cases and old age pensioners.
