Complications.— Suppurative adenitis, 4 (some degree of
adenitis was present in practically all cases); Otitis, 46; Purulent
rhinitis, 40 (diphtheritic 10, streptococcal 30); Vaginal discharge,
4; Nephritis, 6 (3 cases very severe); Septic Meningitis, 1; Acute
Rheumatism, 3 (one fatal case).
Cases transferred to Cubicle Block from Scarlet
Fever side.— forty-two patients were transferred in all for the
following reasons :—Scarlejt Fever with Diphtheria, 6; Scarlet
Fever with vaginal discharge, 4; As observation cases possibly
Scarlet Fever, 10 (Eight cases subsequently confirmed); Scarlet
Fever with Nephritis, 3; Scarlet Fever with Influenza, 2; Septic
Scarlet Fever, 4; Rubella subsequent to admission 10; Others, 2;
Convalescent Scarlet Fever, 1.
Staff.— Members of the Staff were admitted to hospital beds
suffering from the following complaints:—Colds, 7; Tonsillitis, 4;
Rheumatism (post-scarlatinal), 1; Gastritis, 1; Scarlatina, 1;
Rubella, 1; Injured foot, 1; Cystitis, 1.
Operations at Hospital.— Tonsillectomy (Virulent Diphtheria
carriers), 4; Wilde's incision, 1; Radical Mastoid, 2;
Tracheotomy, 1; Drainage of extra-dural abscess, 1; Drainage of
Antrum, 1.
Specialist Consultants were called in for 20 patients, viz: —
Otologist, 10; Surgeon 6; Physician, 4
Swabs.—2,790 swabs were taken and examined during the
year in the laboratory at the Hospital.

mastoid disease, 1; Empyema, supervening on Scarlet Fever, 1;
Gangrenous throat, 1; For removal of foreign body from thigh, 1.
