Death-rate of infants under one year of age:—
All infants per 1,000 live births 53
Legitimate infants per 1,000 legitimate live births 51
Illegitimate infants per 1,000 illegitimate live births 130
Deaths from Measles (all ages) Nil
„ „ Whooping Cough (all ages) 7
„ „ Diarrhoea (under 2 years of age) 15
The Zymotic Disease Death-rate, i.e., the rate per 1,000
population of deaths from the following diseases:—Enteric Fever,
Smallpox, Measles, Scarlet Fever, Whooping Cough, Diphtheria
and Diarrhoea, etc., under two years, was 0.24 against 0.03 in
1932.
The Pulmonary Tuberculosis Death-rate was 0.65 per 1,000
population, and the Non-Pulmonary Death-rate was 0.081 per
1,000 population.
The natural increase of population, i.e., excess of births over
deaths, was 313.
The usual comparison of vital statistic rates with those for
the whole country, is shown in the table on the following page.
Births.—Births are dealt with under the Maternity and Child
Welfare Section of the Report.
Deaths.—The table on page 11 shows the Registrar-General's
classification of causes of death by sex totals. These have been
sub-divided locally, as accurately as possible, into age and ward
groups.
