The number of Council houses in course of erection (or about
to be erected) at the end of the year was 76, these being on the Spion
Kop (No. 2) Site; while preparation is being made for a further
70 houses at Higham Hill No. 1 Site (Millfield Avenue) (1930 Act),
and for 136 houses at Essex Hall Site. The erection of 90 houses
at Kimberley Road Site and 136 houses at The Chestnuts Estate is
under consideration.
The following information is given in the form required by the
Ministry of Health (Circular 1206):—
I .—Inspection of Dwelling-houses during the Year.
(1) (a) Total number of dwelling-houses inspected (for
housing defects under the Public Health or
Housing Acts) 4,273
(6) Number of inspections made for the purpose 16,749
(2) (a) Number of dwelling-houses (included under
head (1) above) which were inspected and
recorded under the Housing Consolidated
Regulations, 1925 1,015
(b) Number of inspections made for the purpose 4,038
(3) Number of dwelling-houses found to be in a state so
dangerous or injurious to health as to be unfit
for human habitation 3
(4) Number of dwelling-houses (exclusive of those
referred to under the preceding sub-head) found
not to be in all respects reasonably fit for human
habitation 1,668
II.—Remedy op Defects During the Year without Service of
Formal Notices.
Number of defective dwelling-houses rendered fit in
consequence of informal action by the Local
Authority or their Officers 2,705
III.—Action Under Statutory Powers During the Year.
A. Proceedings under Section 17 of the Housing Act,
1930:—
(1) Number of dwelling-houses in respect of which
notices were served requiring repairs 145
