House-to-House Inspection, and the general character of
defects found to exist in unfit houses recorded under Section 17,
Housing, Town Planning Act, 1909, is as follows:—
(1) Number of houses inspected 429
(2) Number of houses found not to be in all respects fit 329
(3) Number of representations made to Local Authority Nil.
(4) Number of Closing Orders made Nil.
(5) Number of defects which were remedied without
Closing Orders 329
(6) General character of the defects found to
exist in the dwelling houses inspected

Unhealthy Areas.
No part of the District could be described as coming under this
heading. There are a few old dilapidated houses in cul-de-sacs in
the Wood Street Ward which, under favourable conditions, might
be condemned as unfit for habitation.
The present Bye-laws as to Houses let in Lodgings are dated 1883.
There are no registered premises under this heading and no necessity
for a revision of these Bye-laws at present.
General and Miscellaneous.
Under this heading may be mentioned that 28 sinks of the old
and worn out type of soft stone were replaced by those of modern
pattern and in no instance was replacement due to the outcome of
misuse by tenants.
