It will be seen from this table that 226 of the marriages
were celebrated at the parish churches, 64 at the several
chapels, and 69 were united by civil contract at the
Superintendent-Registrar's Office.
In London the marriages in the year numbered 37,175,
and the proportion of persons married to the total population
was 17'4 per 1,000.
In England and Wales the marriages of 453,844 persons
were registered, corresponding to an annual rate of 15.3
per 1,000.

During the year 1892 there were 1,129 births registered
in the District, of these 558 were males and 571 were
females, or one birth in every 35.2 of the population, and
corresponding to an annual birth-rate of 28.3 per 1,000;
this rate is nearly identical with that of the previous year,
and that of the average rate for the 10 years—1882-91.
The parish of St. George, Bloomsbury, shows a slightly
lower rate than in 1891, whilst the rate for the whole
