Board's Office Accommodation,
The office accommodation of your Board had for a
considerable time been found insufficient, and the question
of the provision of additional offices had been under the
consideration of Your Board for several years past. The
matter was referred to your Works Committee, who after
lengthy consideration of the matter and examination into
several designs and estimates which were prepared by
your Surveyor, ultimately recommended the demolition
of the stables adjoining the Surveyor's Department,
the erection of a new office on the site thereof, the
erection of two new offices on portion of the vacant
land at the rear of 198, High Holborn, abutting on
Green Dragon Yard, the building of new stables at the
southern end of the Board's stone yard, with rooms for
the storage of plant, tools, and materials over the
stables and the shed and office adjoining. This recommendation
of your Committee was, after considerable
discussion, adopted by you, and a Contract for the
work was entered into by Messrs. Parkinson & Son,
of 27, Southampton Bow, the work being completed and
possession of the new offices and buildings taken on
1st January, 1893. The total cost of the work was
£1489 6s. l1d.
Miscellaneous.
The premises Nos. 9 and 11 Macklin Street being pulled
down, negotiations were entered into with Messrs. Pfeil &
Stedall, the owners, with the view of setting back the
frontage line to the line of their premises adjoining. Messrs.
Pfeil & Stedall ultimately agreed to set back their frontage
in the manner desired by the Board, which enabled the
