The main thoroughfares in the District were watered
twice on Sundays during the summer months, between the
hours of 7 a.m. and 1 p.m., when the condition of the
weather rendered it desirable.
Removal of Snow.
Snow fell on several occasions during the month of
January of the present year, necessitating the employment
of additional labour to deal with it. The bulk of the snow
was disposed of by cartage to the Thames Embankment,
whence it was thrown into the River Thames. A considerable
quantity of the snow was flushed down the gullies into the
sewers by the application of water obtained from the
New River Company's mains.
Street-orderly Bins, &c.
New Street-orderly Bins have been erected during the
year as follows, viz. :—
Marchmont Street 2
Kenton Street 2
Russell Square 1
The total number of bins now in the District is 45.
Since my last report further bins have been erected for
storing shell ballast for strewing upon the asphalte and wood
pavements, when their condition render it desirable,
viz.:-
