lhe London County Council have completed the newlyerected
common lodging-house in Parker Street, Drury
Lane. At the opening ceremony on 25th January, 1893,
Mr. Beachcroft, chairman of the Public Health and Housing
Committee of the Council, gave the following interesting
statement about it :—
" The building was designed by Messrs. Gibson and
Russell, of Little Queen Street. The work was put out to
tender, and that of Messrs. Holloway for £14,300 was
accepted. The addition of a laundry, which will effect a
saving in maintenance, and enlargement of the site, to some
extent accounts for the difference over original pians of the
Council for £10,000. The furnishing has cost £1,250, and
