Summonses.
37 summonses were taken out for offences under the
Nuisances Removal and Sanitary Acts in cases where the
owners had not complied with the notices served upon them.
Convictions were obtained in every case, and orders granted
by the magistrates for the carrying out of the necessary
works for the abatement of the nuisances.

Sanitary Laws Amendment Act, 1874—37 & 38 Vict.,
cap. 89, sec. 47.
Since January, 1885, a total of 533 houses have been
registered under the provisions of these regulations. Owing
to the demolition in the Shelton Street area and other places
this number has been reduced to 497, of which 81 are in the
parish of St. George, Bloomsbury, and 416 in the parish of
St. Giles-in-the-Fields.
