There were 16 deaths, equal to a death-rate of 19.2 per
1,000 ; only 3 deaths were recorded from infectious diseases,
viz., scarlet fever 2 (at Western Fever Hospital), and 1 from
whooping-cough, or a zymotic death-rate of 3.6 per 1,000.
Ten children died under 5 years, equal to an infantile
death-rate of 12.0 per 1,000.

THE MODEL HOUSES, STREATHAM STREET.
Opened in 1842.
The population in this block in 1890 was 217 persons, of
whom 66 were children under 10 years of age.
There were only 2 births, corresponding to a birth.rate of
9.2 per 1,000.
The 4 deaths, 1 adult and 3 infants under 1 year, were
equal to a death-rate of 18.4 per 1,000.
One of the deaths was from an infectious disease, viz.,
diphtheria.
There are 56 lettings in the buildings, and 137 rooms,
comprising 1, 2 and 3 room tenements.
The weekly rental of lodgings, maximum 7s. 6d., minimum
2s. 9d.
