In October the Council made Smoke Control Orders Nos, 14 and 15
and they were confirmed by the Minister of Housing and Local Government in December,
These Orders, together with Order No, 13 made in July 1967 come into operation on 1st October, 1969 and details are as follows:-

The Council's Smoke Control Area programme provides for a further
twelve areas by 1978 in addition to the twenty-one already covered by
confirmed Smoke Control Orders.

Air Pollution Complaints.
There were 120 complaints from the public about nuisance from
smoke and grit; 74 of these concerned bonfires, 20 smoke from factory
chimneys; 15 smoking domestic chimneys and 11 grit and smuts. There
has been an increase in recent years in the number of complaints about
bonfires which is indicative of the growing concern of the public.
