The sample of white bread was contaminated with poppy seed
but as this is a common article used in bakeries at the present time
it was not thought that any further action was necessary, other than
to warn the baker to take effective precautions to prevent the seeds
becoming embedded in the crust of loaves.
Action in the case of the remaining sample which was a pork
pie affected with a type of penicillin mould growth, culminated in
legal proceedings, the vendor was fined £20 with £5 costs.

Tabulated Statement of Samples submitted to the Public Analyst during 1964.
