CO-ORDINATION.
The School Medical Officer is also Medical Officer
of Health.
The School Nurses are also Health Visitors, and each
carries out Maternity, Child Welfare, Infant Life
Protection and School work.
The Offices of the School Medical Service together
with the Clinics, Welfare Centre, and Open Air Day School
are situated at the Health Centre in Grange Road.
The Offices of the Public Health Department and the
Education Secretary are now at the Guildhall.
LATCHMERE ROAD SCHOOL.
The Latchmere Road School was opened in the Autumn.
It is designed to take 400 children, comprising Junior Mixed
and Infants, with due regard to future development. The
Authority was fortunate in having at its disposal a site
fronting on the quiet Latchmere Road. The school overlooks
a new recreation ground, which will eventually be
scheduled as a permanent open space.
The accommodation consists of nine classrooms, one of
which is used as a Practical Room, Central Hall, Headmaster's
Room, Staff Room, Medical Inspection and Waiting
Room, numerous book stores, heating chambers, together
with the necessary cloakrooms, lavatories and offices for
the children and staff. A gallery overlooks the Central
Hall. The Caretaker has quarters on the First Floor over
the centre portion of the school.
All the classrooms are linked by a continuous open
glazed covered-way facing South. By means of folding
windows practically the whole of one side of the classrooms
may be thrown open, and cross ventilation effected
by means of the windows on the North aspect.
The school is heated throughout by a low pressure
hot water system. There are two boilers installed in the
Heating Chamber, one serving as a standby. The regular
boiler is automatically fed and thermostatically controlled.
Hot water is provided to all lavatories.
