There have been two changes in the Staff. Miss F.
I. Arnold, Health Visitor—School Nurse, was appointed
to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Miss E.
G. Couzens, who had obtained a post at Harrow. Miss
Arnold commenced her duties on February 11th, 1935.
Mr. H. H. Madams was appointed as additional
Sanitary Inspector to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation
of Mr. G. H. Cockell, who had obtained a post at
Finchley. Mr. Madams commenced his duties on the 28th
August, 1935.
In April the Maternity and Child Welfare Services
were extended to include dental treatment for mothers and
infants, operative treatment of tonsils and adenoids at the
Kingston Victoria Hospital, the services of Dr. B. Turner
as Consultant Obstetrician, and an additional ante-natal
session a month.
Another advance was the establishment in April of
an Immunisation Clinic against diphtheria, and the demand
for this was amply justified by the numbers seeking protection
through this service.
The above additional activities have considerably
increased the work of the Health Visitors, who are also
School Nurses, and Infant Life Protection Visitors under
the Children and Young Persons Acts. Since it appeared
certain that home visiting would suffer in consequence of
these extra duties, the appointment of a dental attendantclerk
to the Maternity and Child Welfare and School
Medical Services was considered early in 1936 and
approved to take effect from 1st April, 1936.
The work of the Sanitary Inspectors in connection with
Housing, Meat and Food Inspection, and general sanitation
has been well maintained.
The subject of Housing is dealt with under Section D
of the Report and the progress is steady and satisfactory.
