Report of the
Chief Sanitary Inspector
To the Mayor, Aldermen and Councillors.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
I beg to submit the Annual Report on the work carried
out by your Sanitary Inspectors in respect of the year 1935,
in connection with the various Statutes and Byelaws relating
to Public Health in force within, the Borough. The present
report is the seventeenth such report I have had the honour
to present to you.
During the past year 7460 inspections were made, as
compared with 7603 during the year 1934.
In the Register of Sanitary Defects 521 new entries
were made and 477 entries were cancelled following completion
of necessary works. On December 31st, 1935, 458
separate entries remained outstanding compared with 414
at the end of 1934. Included in the 458 entries referred
to above were 45 houses awaiting demolition, 36 houses
subsequently dealt with in Canbury Areas " B " and " C "
and 45 houses which were under consideration for redrainage
works. The remaining 332 premises were
included owing to sundry sanitary defects.
In previous reports it has been customary to state
the number of sanitary defects discovered and the number
of premises affected thereby. During 1935, however, the
design of the Register of Defects was very much simplified
in order to reduce clerical labour and the tabulation of
premises and defects was discontinued for a similar reason.
