ARTICLES OF FOOD CONDEMNED.
The following list shows the various amounts of
foodstuffs condemned during the year. Where the action
taken is stated to be " Inspected and Condemned " it is an
indication that the articles referred to were inspected at the
slaughterhouses at the time of killing. In the remaining
cases a request for inspection was made by the owner.
Apart from being a mere record, the list is interesting as
it demonstrates the variety of causes for condemnation.
Amongst those not associated with the work it is quite
commonly thought that the only examination made is in
order to detect the presence of Tuberculosis, but this is,
of course, incorrect.
