The Rag and Bone Yards are situated in unsuitable
positions in the Borough, and require frequent visits of
inspection.
During 1928 the Corporation adopted new Bye-laws to
control all offensive trades. The additional powers have
proved very useful in dealing with Rag and Bone Yards and
Fried Fish premises.
Seventeen visits were made to premises in connection
with offensive trades, in addition to reinspections after
notices or warnings.
One fried fish shop was closed during the past year.
This particular shop was the source of continual complaint
owing to the old-fashioned apparatus used and the consequent
emission of odours. A notice was served under the
Bye-laws, requiring the apparatus to be remodelled, but no
further action was necessary after the business closed down.
No new fried fish shop or other offensive trade premises
were licensed during the year.
