Report of
the Sanitary Inspector.
To the Corporation of Kingston-upon-Thames.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
I have the honour to present to you my Eighth Annual
Report on the work carried out by your Sanitary Inspectors
during the year 1926 in connection with the various Statutes
and Bye-laws relating tp Public Health in force within the
Borough.
The total number of inspections during 1926 was 6,540
as compared with 6,533 during 1925.
On 690 premises sanitary defects to the number of 2,500
were discovered. In connection with these defects 497 "preliminary"
and 69 "verbal" notices were issued. In 92
instances it was found necessary to serve "statutory"
notices.
During the year 1926 particulars relating to the inspection
of 690 premises were added tp the records, whilst 899
entries were struck off the registers following the completion
of necessary works. On December 31st, 1926, 246
premises remained on the registers, compared with 389 at
the end of 1925. This substantial reduction shows that the
arrears of work is being overcome successfully despite the
greater number of fresh premises dealt with during 1926.
The number of inspections during 1926 is approximately
the same as for the previous year. The number of visits to
slaughter-houses and food premises has increased, whilst a
corresponding reduction is shown under Works in Progress
and other headings.
Each of the Schools in the Borough was inspected
during the year and details of sanitary improvements carried
out are contained in the Report of the School Medical Officer.
Assistance was rendered to the Housing Committee in
various ways during the year.
