She was notified as suffering from Puerperal Fever on
May 20th, and admitted to the Kingston and District
Hospital on May 21st. She died on May 26th. An inquest
was held on May 28th. Death from Puerperal Septicaemia,
in accordance with medical evidence.
This patient's baby was admitted to the Kingston and
District Hospital on May 2.3rd, suffering from pyaemia and
died on May 30th. An inquest was held. The post-mortem
examination revealed general Septicaemia, the infection
apparently having been conveyed from the umbilicus.
Case 3.
This patient was sent into the Kingston Nursing Association
Home by a doctor on May 23rd, in a state of collapse,
suffering from ante-partum hemorrhage. She remained in
the Home until May 30th, when she was transferred to the
Kingston and District Hospital. The midwife concerned in
Cases 1 and 2 did not attend this patient in any way, and
no examination was done by any midwife, the doctor being
in attendance.
At the Kingston and District Hospital, she was found
to be a case of placenta praevia, and she was delivered of a
macerated dead infant.
She was notified as suffering from puerperal fever on
June 4th, and died on June 22nd.
An inquest was held on June 26th, when the cause of
death was syncope following thrombosis of the inferior vena
cava, and puerperal septicaemia.
Case 4.
Confined at her own home on May 19th, being delivered
by the same midwife from the Kingston Nursing Association
as attended Cases 1 and 2.
The midwife was withdrawn from this patient on May
22nd, owing to the condition of Case 2, and another midwife
was substituted for her. This patient had some rise in
temperature for three days during the puerperium, but was
left on the 10th day.
On the 15th day she was not well, and her husband
called in a doctor, who reported to me that he thought she
was suffering from parametritis on June 5th.
On June 7th the doctor stated that she was improving.
She was sent into the Kingston and District Hospital
on June 10th, and notified as a case of puerperal fever.
