The scheme was approved by the Ministry of Health
and the Board of Education, and came into operation on
January 1st, 1924. .
SCHOOL HYGIENE,
A general review of the Public Elementary Schools was
given in the Report for 1920, giving in detail their hygienic
conditions with particular reference to their surroundings,
ventilation, lighting, warming, and sanitation.
The artificial lighting in those Schools using incandescent
gas burners is in most instances unsatisfactory.
During the year 1923 the following repairs and improvements
have been carried out :—
Bonner Hill Road Schools.
Boys', Girls', and Infants' Departments.
All classrooms, central halls, corridors, lavatories,
teachers' rooms, etc., re-decorated throughout.
Two huts at the rear of the school re-decorated externally,
and the ceiling whitened internally.
Five screens for dividing off the Boys' Assembly Hall.
Installation of 2 new " Ideal " boilers for heating the
school in place of 3 worn-out boilers.
Richmond Road Schools.
Boys' Department—8 classrooms, 2 cloakrooms,
Teachers' Common Room and passage re-decorated.
Girls' Department—Central hall and corridors redecorated.
Infants' Department—5 classrooms, all woodwork
painted. Cloakrooms and entrance to classrooms re-decorated.
2 screens for Infants' School.
The lavatories in all departments re-decorated throughout.
