The complaints were investigated promptly, and where
the Corporation possessed powers to interfere, immediate
steps were taken to remove the cause of the complaint.
The number of complaints during 1922 was 146.
Offensive Trades.
The following offensive trades are carried on in the
town :—
Leather Tanning.
Rag and Bone Dealers.
The premises are inspected at irregular intervals, and
without notice to the occupiers. The Tannery is maintained
in a satisfactory condition, and no complaints in respect
thereof have been received during the year.
Thirty-six visits were made to premises in connection
with offensive trades during the year.
Factories, Workshops and Workplaces.
One hundred visits were made to Factories and Workshops,
etc. Other details with respect to these premises are
contained in Tables on pages 13 and 14.
There are 15 " Outworkers " resident in the Borough,
and the premises so used were inspected periodically.
Increase of Rent & Mortgage Interests Acts.
Sixteen applications were received during the year from
tenants for certificates under Section 2, Sub-Section 2, of
the above Act, as compared with an equal number during
1922.
The premises were subjected in each case to a careful
inspection, and the owners of the houses respectively were
invited to carry out any necessary items of repair.
In five instances necessary repairs were not carried out
by the owners, and certificates were granted to the tenants.
Sanitary Condition of Music Halls.
Cinemas, &c.
Six inspections were made of the above premises during
the year, in accordance with the suggestion contained
in the Circular Letter from the Ministry of Health. Visits
