Provision was made for an average use of 3250 hours per week in the financial year 1958/9 and 3,300 hours per week in 1959/60. The total hours of service given and the average hours worked per week were as follows

The salient feature in reporting on this most valuable of the social services is the steadyexpansion
of the service exemplified in the following figures of average hours worked per week.

+ The figures reflect the result of 53 working weeks.
† In this year there was a total sickness period of 10,090 hours. Of this total approximately
1/3 could not be covered by relief workers and this in turn is reflected in the reduction of
the total hours worked for the year.
