Study of these tables shows -
(1) Coronary disease and angina continue to take an increasing toll, in a number of instances
causing death in middle life. it is idle to speculate on this condition. it seem3 to
strike active and sedentary persons alike, persons of a worrying disposition and those more
phlegmatic, and it is extremely difficult to assess the place of alcohol in the causation.
(?) Cancer of the lung continues to loom larger as a cause of death and as nothing is done
in the community to stop smoking, which is considered by the concensus of medical opinion
to be a causative factor, it will be interesting to observe the effects of reduction of
atmospheric pollution which is also impugned as a carcinogenic agent.
