Physiotherapy Clinics.
The services provided in these Clinics have continued at a high
level of efficiency during the year. Their value is accentuated by the
fact that treatment can be given without the long waiting period for
similar services in hospital out-patient departments, and by the minimal
loss of school time which results from avoiding the necessity for undue
travel to and from hospital.

Child Guidance Clinic.
The work of the Child Guidance Clinic during 1951 was somewhat handicapped
by staffing difficulties. Dr. E.Huband joined the team as parttime
Psychiatrist (2 sessions per week) to repliace Dr. Craike, but we were
without the services of a Psychiatric Social Worker until Mrs. M,H. Mills
was appointed in November. Mr. Wright resigned at the end of October
and Mrs. J.F. Stevens was appointed as temporary Educational Psychologist
in charge. Mrs. Barker (part-time Play Therapist) left in December, but
it was expected to replace her early in 1952.
Despite an almost complete change of staff and the lack of a
Psychiatric Social Worker for the greater part of the year, much valuable
work was carried out. 105 children were discharged as no longer requiring
treatment (20 more than in the previous year). However, more children
were referred for treatment and at the end of the year there was a waiting
list of 84 children - which means that many will have to wait up to 8 or
9 months before treatment can be commenced. Should the present rate of
referral continue there is little prospect of reducing this waiting list
without augmenting the staff.

The following statistics relate to the work of the Child Guidance team in 1951, although they can give little idea of that accomplished owing to the individual and time consuming nature of this form of treatment.
