outside the area and whose deaths were assigned to the Borough
was 550. The number of deaths of persons non-resident in the
area was 64. The number of deaths in various age groups was as

The crude death rate was 11.0. The Registrar-General has
now again supplied an area comparability factor and that for East
Ham is 1.05. The corrected death rate is, therefore, the crude
death rate (11.0) multiplied by 1.05—11.55.

Infantile Mortality.
Deaths of infants under one year numbered 48—equivalent
to an infant mortality rate of 24 per 1,000 live births, the rate
for the previous year was 26.
The rate for England and Wales for 1949 was 32.
The number of deaths of illegitimate children under one year
of age was two out of a total of 65 illegitimate live births, giving
a mortality rate of 30 as compared with a figure of 15 per 1,000
illegitimate live births for the year 1948.
