6. To obtain Old Age and other pensions as cases become
eligible.
7. To assist deserving Blind persons, and to do all such other
things as are considered to be for the general welfare of the
Blind.
8. To supply materials to those engaged in pastime occupation,
and to market the articles they make.
9. To brighten the lives of the Blind by means of entertainments,
visiting, etc.
All activities on behalf of the Blind have been well maintained,
and the Association records the hearty co-operation of the East
Ham Council and Education Committee in making an annual grant
of £100, and providing accommodation for concerts and meetings.
During the year, 24 pairs of special glasses and four surgical
aid appliances were supplied. Two cases were sent to Convalescent
Homes for the Blind, and those suffering from visual
defects were treated in hospitals. All the Blind in the Borough,
where required, now have wireless sets provided and installed and
the cost of maintenance undertaken.
The weekly club at St. Bartholomew's Institute continues
with every success, and has an average attendance of 90.
The Home Teacher (Miss Kingston) works in close co-operation
with the Association.
The Council's Ophthalmic Specialist examines all new cases
and certifies where necessary.
