A brief synopsis of the Council's administrative scheme as
approved by the Ministry of Health was set out in the 1930 Report.
The Council initiated a scheme in October, 1935 enabling
expectant mothers to obtain admission to Forest Gate Hospital
without the need for personal attendance at Arragon Road Relief
Station as heretofore. Although the maternity beds at this Hospital
are primarily for Public Assistance cases, many mothers are
anxious to avail themselves of the care and nursing facilities provided.
The combined appointment of Nurse Kelley as District
Nurse and Assistant Relieving Officer has rendered this possible
and intending applicants are now visited in their homes where the
necessary enquiries are made. Regular supervision during the
ante-natal period at one of the Maternity and Child Welfare Clinics
is thereby encouraged.
A provisional admission card is handed to the expectant
mother at her first visit for use in case of emergency and is
