It will be seen that the percentage of defects found upon inspection
of "entrants" is much less than for the year 1934, although
still somewhat in excess of previous years.
(a) Uncleanliness.
The School Nurses have carried out three cleanliness surveys
of all children in the elementary schools during the year 1935.
During the year the School Nurses made 45,356 examinations,
as compared with 47,550 in 1934. Of this number 140 children
showed vermin and many nits in the hair (140 in 1934), whilst
1,854 children showed only a few nits (776 in 1934).
A greater number of exclusion certificates have been issued.
