The number of patients treated with Scarlet Fever serum
totalled 124, in 3 instances injections of mixed serum being- given.
Severe or prolonged complications were as follows, viz.:—
34 cases showed marked double adenitis.
35 cases of rhinorrhœa profuse.
Many minor and other operations under general and local
anaesthesia were undertaken.
The age incidence of the patients admitted was as follows:—

Measles and Complications.
Nine patients were admitted during the year. All were severe
cases with complications. No deaths resulted.
By the admission of such cases some relief was afforded to
Whipps Cross Hospital, and it must be acknowledged that had
not institutional treatment been available, recovery might not have
ensued.
Whooping Cough.
Fourteen cases of severe illness were admitted during the
year—one death resulted from bronchial pneumonia.
Typhoid Fever.
Two cases of Paratyphoid' were admitted. Both recovered.
Erysipelas.
Ten cases were admitted for treatment during the year. No
deaths occurred.
General.
All members of the nursing and domestic staff are medically
examined and tested to ascertain their susceptibility to Diphtheria
and Scarlet Fever by means of the Schick and Dick skin reactions.
In those reacting positively immunization was offered.
