Owing to the resignation of Dr. Harrison, Public Vaccinator,
in June, Dr. O'Moore was appointed temporarily to the post and
carried out the duties until the end of the year.
It is obvious that on account of the low incidence of Smallpox
within this Borough during the last few years the need for vaccination
has not been so prominent in the minds of the public
generally.
Scarlet Fever.
The number of notifications received during the year totalled
701, as compared with 779 for last year. Five deaths resulted from
this cause. Of the total cases notified 556 or 79.3 per cent.
received hospital treatment compared with 92.0 per cent. for 1932.
Diphtheria.
Cases notified numbered 180 as against 157 for 1932. Of this
number 179 received hospital treatment, equivalent to 99.4 per
cent., compared with 98.7 per cent. for the previous year. There
were 22 deaths assigned to Diphtheria, equal to a case mortality
of 12.2 per cent. There is no change in the arrangements for the
supplying of anti-toxin as outlined in previous reports.
Schick Immunization Clinic.
During the year 1933, 526 infants and children have received
three inoculations.
