Twelve children, with the consent of their parents, were successfully
vaccinated.
The Dentist, Mr. C. F. Rose, has made the usual visits and
inspections at Aldersbrook and the Scattered Homes, resulting
in 126 children being treated for extractions, fillings, etc.,
anæsthetics being given by my Assistant when necessary.
I should like to take this opportunity of expressing my appreciation
of the help, consideration and courtesy shown me at all
times by the Superintendent and Matron.
January, 19.34.
As required by Articles 170 (13) and 179 (1) of the Public
Assistance Order, 19.30, I submit my half-yearly report for the
half-year ended on the 31st December, 1933.
Health of the Children.
In the Aldersbrook and Scattered Homes the general health
of the children is still very good. The fact of the children being
almost immune from serious illness is very gratifying indeed.
Infectious Diseases.
There have been no epidemics during the period under review.
Sporadic cases of infection have developed during the past six
months as follows, viz.:—Whooping Cough 10, Scarlet Fever 7,
Diphtheria 5, Mumps 1, Chicken Pox 1.
These figures speak for themselves and much credit is due
to the Staff for the detection of every illness at its onset, thereby
undoubtedly reducing the number of infectious diseases, and
minimising the danger of other illnesses.
Nursing.
The nursing of the infants and sick children is still of a very
high standard. Every care and attention is given by the Matron
and Nurses to these children, and the greatest credit is due to the
Matron and her staff for their energy and skill.
The Nursery.
The Nursery which has been in operation during the past six
months is fulfilling its expectations.
The increased hygienic conditions which prevail have undoubtedly
contributed to the improvement in the health and general
appearance of the infants.
