Dr. J. Sangster Greig, Medical Officer to the Homes, in his
half-yearly reports to the Committee, stated that the health of
the children continued to be very satisfactory, but that many of
the newly admitted children continue to require individual care
and attention owing to their neglected condition on arrival.
During the year there were outbreaks of measles and whooping
cough amongst the children but no fatal cases occurred.
During 1932 Dr. Greig and his Assistant paid 456 visits to
Aldersbrook and 147 visits to the Scattered Homes. In addition
to the ordinary routine medical examinations, 601 children were
examined on admission and 518 on discharge. Minor operations
were performed and treatment given as required.
The Dentist, Mr. C. F. Rose, made the usual visits, and
inspections at Aldersbrook and the Scattered Homes resulting in
213 children being treated for extractions, fillings, etc.,
anaesthetics being given by Dr. Greig's assistant when necessary.
The ophthalmic treatment of these children is carried out by
the Council's Ophthalmic Surgeon.
