REPORT OF THE OPHTHALMIC SURGEON.
To the School Medical Officer,
County Borough of East Ham,
Education Committee.
February, 1932.
Sir,
I have the honour to present my report for 1931.

Glasses obtained 376
Special treatments 67
Re-examinations 2,533
Discharged 147
Baby Clinic.
Number of new cases 42
Re-examinations 231
Glasses prescribed 24
Glasses obtained 24
Special treatments 6
Discharged 4
Myope Class.
Number of pupils 20
Squint.—The number of cases of squint now in the schools
appears to be slightly over 400. Attention having been concentrated
during the last 12 months on improvement in the vision in
all of these cases which have come for treatment, it will be noticed
that no operations for squint have been performed. This is not to
say that this procedure can be entirely eliminated in the future.
Baby Clinic.—The numbers here are slightly higher.
Myope Class.—Again it is pointed out that much effort is
expended in keeping the standard of education in this class up to
the normal for each child.
I am most pleased to thank everyone in the School Medical
Service for their efficient help, for the skilled work of the optician
and the good services of the clerical staff.
I have the honour to be, Sir,
Your obedient Servant,
S. C. REEVE-FLAXMAN.
