The Inspector regularly visited these shops for the purpose
of compiling trade registers and seeing that the provisions of the
Shops Acts and Early Closing Orders were complied with.
During the year 158 contraventions were reported, necessitating
letters of caution being sent to the offenders, and in 44 instances
legal proceedings were instituted.
During the year 6,531 visits were made by the Shops
Inspector.
On the Tobacco Hours Extension Petition 325 visits were
made.
There were reported to the Police 16 places where gambling
machines were installed.

271 visits were made for the purpose of enquiring if the provisions
of the Act were complied with. 16 cautions were given for
offences.
