(a) (i.) Medical Inspection and Re-inspection.
At the commencement of the year arrangements were made
for the Medical Inspection of all children admitted to the schools
during the year, of all children between 8 and 9 years of age, and
of all children between 12 and 13 years of age, together with
children over 13 years of age who had not already been examined
after reaching the age of 12.
In addition, provision was made for the re-inspection in the
seven schools which had not been visited for this purpose during
the year 1926.
The half-time services of an additional Medical Officer for four
months during the year has made it possible to complete this work,
and also to carry out a special census of the "exceptional children
" (Table III) in the schools (see 4 (b)).
(a) (ii.) Administration and Clerical Staff.
The Administrative Scheme adopted in the year 1922 has
been considerably elaborated and extended to include methods for
dealing with the new branches of the Service, which have been
introduced during the past five years. As was expected at the
outset, the Scheme has proved exceedingly successful, and has
ensured that every child dealt with by the School Medical Service
has a complete medical record, and that no child with a physical
defect is lost sight of.
Since the year 1922 the Education Committee have introduced
facilities for the X-ray treatment of Ringworm, Orthopaedic
treatment, and operative treatment for Strabismus. Children
