1. STAFF.
A list of the Staff of the School Medical Department will be
found on page 74 of this Report.
2. CO-ORDINATION.
The scheme for the co-ordination of the various health services
of the County Borough was fully discussed in my reports for the
years 1923 and 1925.
In my report for the year 1922, the suggestion was made that
the Local Insurance Committee should carry on the very important
work of systematic medical supervision when children arrive at
the school leaving age and that the medical records of such children
should be passed on to the medical practitioner concerned.
At that time it was considered that " no useful purpose would be
served " by such procedure. It is interesting to note that the
Medical and Science Councils of the People's League of Health,
who formed the deputation which waited on the Minister of Health
on 28th June, 1927, have embodied similar suggestions in the
recommendations which were submitted to the Minister.
3. THE SCHOOL MEDICAL SERVICE IN RELATION TO PUBLIC
ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS.
School Hygiene.
During the year 1927 a complete survey of the sanitary
and hygienic conditions pertaining to all the schools of trie
Authority has been carried out. Reports upon matters requiring
attention have been submitted month by month to the Committee.
In most instances my recommendations have received careful consideration,
and an endeavour has been made to remedy defects
where possible, but a good deal remains to be done in connection
with improvements in the lighting and heating of school premises.
4. MEDICAL INSPECTION.
The following is a synopsis of School Medical Work for the
year 1927. The figures for the years 1923 to 1926 are also given
for comparison:—
