Dairies and Cowsheds.
For some time there were 2 cowkeepers in the Borough but
they found it unprofitable to keep cows and have closed down.
There are 138 dairies, including shops other than dairies where
milk is sold. One general shopkeeper was removed from the
register because of unsuitable premises, while 2 names were added
to the register.
There is a large sterilized milk factory in the Borough
using the latest machinery for cleansing, sterilizing and bottling
milk, and some 2,500 gallons of milk are sterilized and 20,000
bottles washed and filled daily.
Milk (Special Designations) Order, 1923.
8 supplementary licences were granted for the sale of milk

for Certified milk.
One application was made for a licence for the bottling of
graded milks. As the premises did not comply with the Council's
requirements the application was refused.
Public Health (Meat) Regulations, 1924.

Sunday is usually a busy time for killing, on which day an
Inspector is on duty.
On almost every occasion the slaughterhouses were visited
by an Inspector during the killing process and carcases and offal
examined. 54 offals and 4 carcases were condemned.
Although the Regulations are of such recent date, much good
has already been accomplished,
