Sufferance Privileges.
On 7th September, 1897, the Clerk reported with reference to the bond which the
Commissioners of Customs required to be entered into in regard to sufferance privileges
granted by them for the landing of stone, iron and wood at the vestry's wharf, that he had
had an interview with the Secretary of the Board, and that some doubt had arisen as to the
power of the vestry to enter into such a bond as principal, but the Secretary had requested
him to intimate when the Wharf was finished, and to forward the names of two gentlemen
prepared to act as sureties to the bond, and in the event of the Board of Customs Solicitor
deciding that the Vestry could not enter into the bond as principal, the vestry would be
required to appoint some gentleman as principal.
The matter had not progressed at the close of the year.
