Disinfection of Infected Articles.
A Thresh's Current Steam Disinfector has been in use by the
Vestry during the past twelve months, and has been found to
fulfil all the conditions promised by its makers. It has been put
to a very severe test by reason of having, for considerable periods,
performed all the disinfections not only of our own, but also that
of two other adjoining sanitary districts. This, according to the
view of the makers, has been the cause of some defects arising in
the apparatus which, however, have been remedied at the expense
of the firm who supplied the machine.
The number of articles disinfected by the apparatus during the
year amounted to 7,190.
Another improvement in this Department has been made by
the provision of two specially constructed trucks for conveyance
of articles to and from the Disinfecting Chamber, one being used
before, and the other after, the articles of Bedding, Clothing, &c.,
have been disinfected. They are in substitution for the old
covered van, formerly used as a Fever Ambulance, and which
was the only means of conveying articles to and from the
apparatus.
The number of rooms fumigated after the occurrence in them
of cases of infectious disease amounted to 452.
Supply of Disinfectants.
926 persons were supplied with Carbolic Acid and Disinfecting
Powder from the Mortuary upon presentation of orders for the
same issued from this department.
The Mortuary and Coroner's Court.
During the twelve months under consideration 264 bodies have
been received into the Mortuary. Eighty-five Inquests were held
in the Coroner's Court belonging to the Vestry and fifty Postmortem
Examinations were made in the Post-mortem Room
adjoining the Court.
By arrangement with the London County Council the sum of
£50 per annum is now received by the Vestry for the accommodation
afforded by the Coroner's Court in lieu of payment by
fees as was wont to be the case.
Houses let in lodgings which are registered under the Byelaws
relating to the same:—
