ADMINISTRATION OF THE MIDWIVES ACTS, 1902-1926.
The following information relates to the administration of the
Midwives Acts :—
Notification of Intention to Practise by Midwives, resident in
the Urban District of Harrow during 1935.
Total numbers of midwives practising during 1935 46
Removed from the District during 1935 5
Practising temporarily during 1935 3
Number in District at end of 1935 38
All the midwives who notified their intention to practise in
the Urban District of Harrow during 1935 were in possession of
the certificate of the Central Midwives Board.
Of the midwives practising here two are residents of adjoining
districts and eight practised only in nursing homes, leaving some
28 midwives whose practice was almost confined to the attendance
of Harrow mothers in their own homes.

Of the midwives attending to mothers in their own homes,
most have limited practices. Only one notified 50 cases, four
notified between 30 and 40, two between 20 and 30, five between
10 and 20, and the rest only single figures.

The supervision of midwives is carried out by the staff of the
