INSPECTION & SUPERVISION OF FOOD.
(a) Milk Supply.
Producers.
Owing to building operations the number of cow keepers in
the district is declining, there being now only 17, at the following
addresses :—
Pinner Wood Farm; Blythwood, Uxbridge Road; Woodhall
Farm, Woodhall Gate; Mill Farm, Pinner Hill Road; Grange
Farm, South Harrow; Pinner Park Farm; Grove Farm, Stanmore;
Grim's Dyke Farm, Harrow Weald; Copse Farm, Harrow Weald;
Brooks Hill Farm, Harrow Weald; Hill Farm, Elstree; Oxhey
Lane Farm; College Hill Road; Brockley Hill Farm; Dennis
Lane Farm; Warren House Farm, Wood Lane; Kenton Lane
Farm.
A few of these cowsheds are old and are likely to be demolished
shortly. Those most used, however, are of modern construction,
and the conditions of milk production are good.
Retailers.
There are 84 retailers at work in the district, including six
company distributing centres. The following is a classification of
the milks retailed :—
Ungraded Milk 36
Grade " A" 6
Pasteurized 35
Sterilised Milk 3
Carton Milk 33
Grade "A" Pasteurized Milk 2
Certified Milk 8
Grade " A " T.T 10
Licensing.
There are two premises licensed for the bottling of Grade "A"
(Tuberculin Tested) milk, and three licensed for the pasteurizing
of milk.
Milk Sampling.
During the year 83 samples of milk were taken for analysis.
Of the 38 samples of certified milk, six gave unsatisfactory counts.
Of the nine samples of Grade "A" T.T. milk, three were not satisfactory,
as was one of the nine samples of Grade "A" Pasteurized
milk. One of the eleven samples of Pasteurized milk gave a count
exceeding the prescribed number of organisms, and six of the eleven
samples of ordinary milk were not up to standard.
Two samples of certified milk were also biologically examined
for the presence of the tubercle bacillus, with negative results.
